If left untreated this condition can have severe secondary consequences especially with the elderly and frail who have other co-morbidity factors present.  These will look dark red/purple and may or may not be sore in this group of people.  Early intervention is extremely important.  Chillblains can be found in any age group.  In younger people they are more likely to get hot, red and itchy.
