Conditions
Does your child complain of pain in the back of the heel after exercise?
Severs condition (or disease) is commonly seen in children between the ages of 8-10. It occurs when the leg bones grow and the muscles in the back of the leg don't grow at the same rate. This causes pulling at the insertion of the Achilles tendon which causes pain and tightness of the Achilles tendon.
Severs condition is a condition that children will grow out of when the muscle reaches the same length as the bone, however there are treatments that are available that can reduce the pain in the meantime.
Here at Heather Bassett Podiatry Group treatments may include education on modifying the activities the child is involved in, advice regarding iceing the area and the use of heel lifts in the shoe.
