Foot Facts

Feet are prone to aches and pains and a variety of problems and conditions.  Podiatrists are able to treat over 200 diagnosed problems that can arise with feet.  Some of the more common complaints include Coms, Calluses, Tinea, Bunions, Papillomas and Ingrown Toe Nails.

Podiatrists do more than cut toe nails.  At Heather Bassett Podiatry Group our Podiatrists also do Nail Surgery, Prescription Orthoses, Specialist Wound Care Management and Diabetic Foot Care.

A human foot has 26 bones, 19 muscles and tendons, 107 ligaments, 38 joints and 60,000 sweat glands. A quarter of all the body's bones are in the feet.

The average person will walk around 128,000 klm in a life time.  That's more than three times around the earth.

When walking, each time your heel lifts off the ground it forces the toes to carry one half of your body weight.

Your feet are subjected to more than 2.25 million kilograms of impact daily.

A runner makes 15,000 strikes with a forces 3-4 times their body weight in a 10 kilometer run.

Around 40% of Australians will experience some form of foot problems in their lifetime.

Foot Function

Many foot problems are caused by mechanical imbalances. These imbalances can cause pain in the ankles, legs, knees, hips and even throughout your back.

Foot problems can affect the way you stand, walk and run.

Painful feet in adults can be a result of structural imbalances which may have benefited from treatment in earlier in life. Early intervention from childhood can make a significant difference to your future.
